Description
L3 Insight Technology AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL
Available in both LE/MIL models and Civilian
The ATPIAL-C is a MILSPEC laser system, taken off the same production line as its full power counterpart, the ATPIAL. The only difference is the ATPIAL-C is fitted with a Class1 infrared laser pointer diode and Class 3R infrared laser illuminator (fixed focus – non rotating and epoxied in place) diode, instead of the full power (restricted) Class IIIb diodes. All other parts, components, and accessories are exactly the same as the standard issue AN/PEQ-15. The Red Visible and Infrared Laser Pointers are slaved so that zeroing one will zero the other in tandem. The Infrared Laser Illuminator is a true laser illuminator system, producing no bright downrange visible signature as seen in infrared LED’s. In order to stay within civilian legal guidelines, the Illuminator is lower power, able to reach 150 yards and is non-adjustable. This is perfect for short to medium range engagements. Like the full power ATPIAL, the ATPIAL-C’s Infrared Illuminator can be used to wash out the bloom of the Infrared Laser Pointer at engagement distances.
The L-3 Insight Technology AN/PEQ-15 Advanced Target Pointer/ Illuminator/ Aiming Light (ATPIAL) is the next-generation weapon-mounted laser that offers better performance at about half the size and weight of the military-issue AN/PEQ-2A. Not much larger than a pack of cigarettes, weighing a mere 7.5 oz. with battery, and waterproof to 6m for one hour, the AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL will operate for six hours at maximum output using a single CR-123 lithium battery. An easy-to-use selector switch determines which of eight different laser/illuminator combinations will be activated by a large rubberized membrane firing switch on the top of the unit or by a remote switch that will produce either a momentary beam or with a double-click, locks the beams on. All user controls are large enough to be used while wearing gloves and distinct enough to be identified and operated in complete darkness. The co-aligned visible and IR aiming/pointing lasers and focusable IR illuminator set the standard for both night observation device-enhanced and CQB plain sight targeting and illumination.
Mounting to any weapon system with a mil-spec Picatinny rail, the U.S military uses this cutting-edge device on the M-16/M4 rifle, M-240 and M-249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), the M-110 SASS sniper system and even the .50 caliber Browning M-2A1 heavy machine gun. It can also be used in conjunction with the M-151 spotting scope system and other day optics when combined with eyepiece-mounted AN/PVS-14 night optics or objective-mounted clip-on night optics like the CNVD-LR.
Previously available only to the military and used by SPECOPS, SEAL and other elite units, and issued to federal law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and other federal tactical and security forces, the L-3 PEQ15 ATPIAL is suitable for use by police SWAT and tactical teams and patrol officers in urban areas as well as sheriffs deputies, wildlife officers and state highway patrol officers who may carry patrol rifles and night vision devices in rural areas.
The unit is compatible with Insight pressure switches or the Surefire SR-D-IT picatinny-rail mounted dual pressure switch that controls both the laser and any weapon-mounted Surefire light that has a remote switch connector.
The L-3 AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL may be purchased only by qualified state, municipal and local law enforcement agencies.
NOTE: Eye-safe civilian-legal IR illuminators or IR or visible laser devices of any kind will damage or destroy night observation devices such as AN/PVS-14 monoculars or ANVIS goggles if the beam is directed into the device, either directly or by specular reflection (mirror), so use extreme care when operating IR devices around night vision devices
